At St. Leonard we want to help you have a successful marriage. There is education and preparation for receiving all the sacraments of the faith, including the sacrament of marriage.
The Archdiocese of Chicago offers marriage preparation classes called PreCana or Discovery Weekend. These classes are all a one day Saturday class led by a trained married couple, held at a variety of parishes.Through short talks, sharing of the facilitator’s own experiences, group exercises and personal reflection, engaged couples are guided through topics useful for a successful marriage. Some of the topics presented are: the sacrament of marriage, couples adjustment and growth, Catholic faith, natural family planning, conflict management, finances, children and interfaith marriage.
We ask couples preparing for marriage to please make arrangements at least five months prior to the wedding date.
Because marriage is so important in the eyes of the Church, no firm date for a wedding is set until the conclusion of the couple’s first meeting with one of the parish priests.
